New Dancers - What you should know
As a new line dancer of any age, it's important that you learn basics that will keep you on the floor week after week. The learning process for the new dancer is different than it is for the experienced line dancer. It will take at least three months of line dancing twice a week to activate your muscle memory without you having to "turn it on". It's like driving a car. In the first few months of driving you had to stay really conscious of how things work and what to watch for. You have to remind yourself to turn on the blinkers, turn on the headlights, hit the break when you see a red light.
After you've been dancing six months or more, you will start to do things automatically that you no longer have to think about. This allows you to then learn more dances at a faster pace. But if you don't train that muscle right the first time out, then somewhere along your line dancing road you will find it more difficult, more painful (as you've now hurt yourself doing something you weren't ready for) and/or just give up because all the fun you were told about isn't happening.
